Al Williams has been the Assistant Police Chief at Ball State University since 2015. Responding directly to the Chief, he is responsible for the daily functions within the Uniform, Records and Training Divisions, along with the overall supervision of the Criminal Investigations Division.Previously, Al served with the Muncie Police Department for twenty-five years working his way up from patrol officer to the rank of Captain and Patrol Division Commander. With over twenty years experience in various investigative positions including assignments in the drug task force, violent crimes and investigations units, Al investigated and supervised over 800 violent crimes as well as implementing a cold case initiative that solved several past serial sexual assaults and homicides. Having also served as the Crisis/Hostage Team Commander for thirteen years, Al served as the incident commander for large scale events including major crime scenes and hostage/crisis situations.Al is a graduate of Ball State University, the Northwestern University School of Police, Staff and Command, along with various other law enforcement training including Mastering Performance Leadership, Supervising Criminal Investigations and Undercover Drug Units, Officer Involved Shooting Investigations, Talk Tactics and Advanced Hostage Negotiations, Critical Incident Training, Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Investigations, FETI and Active Shooter CRASE Training.
