Dr. Eric Coleman is a member of the teaching faculty in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of North Texas at Dallas. Prior to rejoining the faculty at the University of North Texas in the fall of 2013, Coleman served as Associate Vice President for Campus Safety and Security and Chief of University Police at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. While at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Coleman oversaw the University Police Department, Safety and Risk Management, Emergency Management and Parking Services.Prior to Joining TAMU-SA in 2010, Dr. Coleman’s academic and administrative experience in higher education spanned over sixteen years. Coleman has over 30 years’ experience in policing, having served as a police officer, patrol deputy, sergeant, captain, regional commander, and chief of police for various law enforcement agencies in Texas. In June 2011, Coleman was elected by fellow chiefs and security directors to serve a two-year term as chairman of the Texas A&M University Systems Law Enforcement Administrators Council. Coleman was elected to the Executive Board of the Texas Association of College and University Police Administrators where he served as Secretary until his return to the UNT System. Coleman hold s a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University, a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Midwestern State University, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration with a specialization in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Coleman was the program coordinator for the new Graduate Certificate in Campus Safety and Security Administration at UNT in Denton. In 2014, Dr. Coleman published a textbook “Managing Campus Safety and Security in Higher Education.” Dr. Coleman currently serves on the Dallas Police Department’s Training Academy Advisory Board.
